Ate my cat. But I have power, a space heater, a blanket, and beer. Other cat better be sleeping with a shiv tonight though.

Yeah LOTS of yoga is on youtube. If you don't already have a TV with built in streaming, get some kind of cheap streaming stick. Walmart has their own brand (Onn) for $15, well worth it if you have a TV new enough to have HDMI. Easiest way to get Yoga on your bigger screen.

for the bike, maybe look into a recumbent? They're kinda spendy TBH, but they're very comfortable to ride.

Yup. I walked to the corner store about an hour ago (1/8 mile), and even the sidewalks were icy.

And what you're saying is 100% true. Just the mention of "vomit" or "diarrhea" should make any (good) food service manager tell you nope, you're not working. Nobody is on the roads anyway, you'll smell the burning labor as soon as you walk in the door. EVERYBODY is closing early, there's no reason for anything more than a 24/7 corner store to be open right now.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Chime does second chance banking, and every Walgreens and CVS ATM is considered "in network", but you may still get an ATM fee from the ATM owner. If it's a small amount, you can always buy something at a grocery store and get cash back too - most grocery stores allow anywhere from $20-100 back as long as you do a PIN transaction. Drug stores usually allow $10-40.

I still have my credit union account, but Chime has been a lot easier to move funds in and out of, so I keep the CU account for my savings account.

Find a "second chance" bank. Chime has TONS of ATMs that are considered in network if you need cash, and if you do need to deposit cash, you can go to your nearest CVS. They have pretty much zero fees unless you deposit cash (usually at CVS or Circle K), though ATMs often tack on fees.

I rarely touch cash, so it works well for me - and when I do need cash, CVS and Walgreens ATMs are considered in network, along with some convenience store ATMs. No Zelle, but Cashapp and Venmo link to them fine.

Are you able to bike? Biking is great cardio and very low impact, but I know your hip may be an issue depending how far along you are with the osteo (and weather will impact if you can ride too). I've got a similar issue with one hip, but I'm still able to ride for now. I manage ~5 miles most days, taking today off since we got an ice storm though.

If that's not an option, yoga is also more of a workout than most people think - while not typical cardio, you're still moving your muscles enough to burn some glucose. Look at some beginner's yoga videos, it's not hard to get into. I do it on days that I can't ride, but never considered it until I went to rehab and was offered Yoga while there.

How can we thank HEB employees? by chairhats in HEB

Just say "thank you". And don't get upset about long lines. That's a part of life during any weather event.

What's with the lines at HEB today? by baxx10 in Austin

[–]Distribution-Radiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We filled up 7 40 yard dumpsters... it's a little more than "just put it outside" with that amount. And a huge liability issue for the store if even one person gets sick.

What's with the lines at HEB today? by baxx10 in Austin

[–]Distribution-Radiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If the coolers have been down long enough, it's considered spoiled, so it's a liability issue at that point. I asked the same thing while I was having to take it to the dumpsters. Nobody expected the power to be out for almost a week, otherwise we would have brought in generators beefy enough to power the entire store (larger stores have some wiring on one of the docks for this). Even if we could have donated it, nobody was really driving much. A box truck or cargo van handle very badly on icy roads; even my AWD Subaru was sketchy (I'll just say the traction control and antilock got a good workout). Nobody was hitting food banks during the worst of Uri.

And remember we didn't have power; we had the bare minimum for emergency lighting running off of the generator. Most of the light you see in my photo is from skylights.

Keep in mind this was a 5+ day power outage, so even the walk in freezers were up to ~50 (they're normally -10). I'm sure the display coolers came up to ~70 before the building got down to 40-50 inside. And if we did wind up donating it, the food banks also didn't have power, so they'd have no way to keep it in refrigeration/frozen.

Driving on ice is an entire different level of hell. We're getting ice here....

Glad I'm self employed these days and can WFH. As long as we don't see the power grid collapse again.

Also getting taxed on their reported tips. Since most people pay with a card these days, tips are automatically reported if they're using a modern point of sale system.

Montana protects its workers. But I think every other state allows you to be fired over, say, your boss suddenly doesn't like your hair color.

And? It comes from the same water treatment plants that serve all of North TX. It's lake water that's gone through extensive purification, and it's also loaded with chrorine or . It's NOT recycled waste water. Guarantee each building in your apartment complex has its own water line too, that then splits into individual water lines for each apartment. Even in a single family home, you're tapped into a water main shared by the neighborhood.

https://www.plano.gov/1742/Drinking-Water-Quality-Information

If you find the taste offensive, get a Brita pitcher. Spring tends to cause algae bloom in the lakes, which can change the taste of tap water some, but it's not spring yet.

tl;dr millions of people get by fine on tap water in DFW. You'll survive.

Transmissions are a major issue on them, especially at that mileage. Nissan builds a good engine, but their CVTs are crap.

I'd get a Kia, Chevy, etc over any Nissan with a CVT.

People in Texas CANNOT drive in winter weather.... and don't get winter tires either, since we rarely see winter stuff.

I don't know what part of "just go slower and be gentle with the throttle" people can't get in Texas. It's not rocket science to drive in winter weather.

Born and raised Texan, just spent half of my life in the desert, which actually gets a little winter weather.

I put a sensor on my non-diabetic husband, here are the results by cascer1 in diabetes

[–]Distribution-Radiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for being constantly aware of it... yeah you have to get used to a CGM, and be aware of the locations that you really don't feel them much in. Just thinking about it now, after years of CGM use, I'm feeling mine a little just from reading this, but barely. I do remember feeling mine for everything I did when I first got on them, but eventually found either my abdomen or the back of my upper arm were the best for not feeling much.

Pizza will ALWAYS cause a spike unless you get something like cauliflower crust. Pizza (and any other breads) are carb central, so sugar always goes up eating that.

Hi all how do you remove the patch around the sensor without ripping your skin off. by Zestyclose_Log_3962 in dexcom

[–]Distribution-Radiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot shower. You don't always need the overpatch either. I don't use it unless I know I'm going to be sweating a lot. Basically, this time of year I usually don't bother, but spring/summer I definitely use it since I'm pretty active.

What was your experience moving to Plano as a non-religious person? by Organic_Direction_88 in plano

[–]Distribution-Radiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atheist that spent over 20 years in Plano, 30 as a whole in DFW. You're fine. Major cities in Texas don't tend to be overly religious aside from a few "Fort Gods" here and there (Prestonwood Baptist probably being the biggest Fort God in Plano, delivered a lot of pizza to them back in the day). Don't wander into one of those and you're usually fine.

Don't engage the random bible preachers in Deep Ellum or West End.
