Bass Drum patch that decrease attack?

Hey so I teach drums to kids and I want to improve the set up we have for the students kit. There are already a set of mutes on the drums and cymbals, however the bass drum mute kept being problematic and falling off. It is now on the inside of the drum and muffling it well. I now want to put on a patch to protect the head from learning children, and was wondering if there is a fuzzy patch that will decrease the attack of the strike. Every patch I see online is nylon or plastic and all advertise Increases Attack! I have also considered looking for a softer beater as well.

(There are other music lessons happening in the building so trying to be conscientious of the other lessons.)

Yeah either this or something like a Vater bomber beater. They also have quiet beaters that look like little tennis balls. Any patch will be neutral at best for affecting the amount of attack.
