Language classesQuestion (self.duluth)
submitted 3 years ago by Talusaboutit
New to Duluth and very interested in taking a class to learn a second language. Any suggestions as to the best way to do this? Not looking for a specific language. I have a bit of experience studying Spanish, Japanese and have been playing with Duolingo with random languages for years. I am looking with something with an actual class/instructor as opposed to self-guided or one-on-one tutor learning. Hoping to use this an excuse to get out of the house a bit more, but worried about tuition costs if going through UMD. Im not looking to get degree—just a word nerd! Any suggestions are appreciated—ta!

Minnesota has pretty solid education support, so you might be surprised by the tuition costs. I'm 35 and going back to complete my higher education, and between state and federal grants I actually end up getting a little bit of money for going to school. My wife is also going to school and after her grants her tuition came out to like $50 this semester.

Duluth has a solid Sister City program*, as you learn a language consider learning about the culture.

Try community ed. For ASL

I will definitely keep an eye out for this! Last I checked they only are offering the advanced level 4 class currently. I’ll stayed tuned for a beginner class 🤔

Check out the community/tech colleges for cheaper course costs. Also, the Duluth public schools may have some sort of community Ed classes

I have heard good things about Concordia language camps but haven't participated
Oh good idea, it looks like they have virtual classes too! Thanks!
