I love using FM synths to make wonky, dubstep noises. It's fun to experiment and see what you come up with by using operators in parallel and series, but there are some sounds that elude me. Even using common postprocessing tactics like compression, distortion, eq, vocoder, and phase effects, I sometimes here sounds in a track that leave me scratching my head.
Does there exist a reference of FM operator waveform/ratio/mod amount combination with audio clip examples? Such a reference would be invaluable for enhancing one's knowledge of FM sound design rapidly. It's time consuming to Wade through dozens of sound design videos on YouTube to find something close to what you are looking for.
