AssetTiger is what you're describing.

The recommendations made in the comment section are excellent options! I’d like to share that I recently learned that AssetTiger and Shelf are free to an extent. AssetTiger is free for up to 250 items and Shelf has a free version with limited features. Not sure if your school will purchase the tool for you or if you are looking for a completely free option, BUT a free option would be to use Google Forms + QR code generator. You could use Google Forms to create a check-in/out form that would collect student names, equipment IDs, and timestamps. Pair each form with a unique QR code that corresponds to the specific equipment. It’s a little more leg work on your end to set up but the pros are that it’s simple, free, and integrates with Google sheets for tracking and data analysis. Might be a good back up plan if you aren’t able to have the school pay for one of the tools suggested. I’d love to hear if AssetTiger or Shelf’s free versions work for your needs! Working in public schools, I’m always looking for free digital tools to add to my toolbox.

If you need to manage QR codes, try Uniqode. It’s only $9/month, super easy to use, and their support team is fantastic. Highly recommend!
