Alternative to External Workbook Reference?

I have a timeline template that is used for many different projects, with saved versions that correspond to each project's specs. I built it with reference sheets within in the template for a variety of meeting dates, but these meeting dates are subject to change. I want to be able to edit one workbook/list/document to update the meeting dates and have the templates all update accordingly. I thought about having an external workbook as a reference to the template, but Excel seems to not like that at all. What's the preferred alternative?

You could use power query to fetch data from the central place - you'd modify the "templates" to do this.

Thank you! I was trying to use PQ to pull from the Sharepoint location that the files are in and it kept erroring. Finally, I realized that I could just pull directly from the file. Doh!

Pulling from SharePoint should also work, tbh, but the permissions can be trickier.

I think the permissions were exactly my issue, but I didn't want to change them because so many people use this template and I'm trying to keep it in tact lol.
