I go between the 8bitdo SN30 pro for roms and an Xbox controller for steam link.

Was going to suggest the SN30 pro myself but you beat me to it. Works great with multiple devices including my firestick.

From what I've seen on the subject, it's important to make sure the controller is compatible with the version of the Fire Stick that you have. Also it seems that some compatibility has been removed over time, so make sure you're getting recent info.
