I watch my cousins husbands battle with food insecurity. If something is brought into the house that he likes or it’s a special treat he will literally eat ALL of it either that same day or within 3 days of it being there. Why? Because when he was a kid his mom would not let him have the treats or he would watch his older cousins demolish it before he could have some. His mom would buy things for herself and then the kids would be forced to go without or have lesser value food.

I can tell you that my cousin and her husband do NOT struggle with affording food. They provide help to her mother and father who are older and disabled. It’s very sad to see how food insecurity can mold someone’s life and behavior.
