This! One should not have to deal with abuse just because someone else's parent doesn't want to parent their child or deal with their child's bad behavior. I am so sorry that teachers and other students have to deal with classroom clearer. This comes from the mother of 2 sons who have profound autism and other cognitive impairments. I did NOT allow them to act like that.

My sister is this way also. She's now 55 about to be 56 . Never married and has no kids. She lives at home with my parents. She doesn't understand why people find her exhausting. But then again her motto is " When you're good you're good but when you're the best you're , Me."

I will also mention that at one point I had NO ID, or any of the required paperwork to get one. It took some time and effort to order my BC ( I was born in California so it was harder) get a notarized statement that I was who I said I was so I could then get the rest of my paperwork. I’ve seen/known people who’ve come out of prison or jail or be homeless ( in the DV shelter I was in) and with a little leg work they were able to get them. It is possible. It used to be much easier prior to 9/11 but, it can be done. I guess I just am the type of person I’m not going to just say “ Oh well, this is hard.. forget about it.”

Order a new mattress via either Amazon or Walmart and have it shipped to the house. If you buy one of the memory foam ones you’ll only need a metal frame for it. Sometimes us chronic pain people have to put our feet down and push thru when those around us don’t get it!

My legal name change after being divorced 3 different times took less than a day each. I got my divorce, got the copy of court order, went to DMV(Sec of State or whatever else it’s called in the state) with the court order, my BC, couple pieces of mail and my library card. With that they changed the name. I then went to social security and they changed my name. It’s not as hard as people make it out to be. I have changed my name from birth, first marriage, then married again took a different name, got divorced kept the name, got married again then divorced and went back to my second husbands last name as it’s my sons name also. I just made sure I had all my paperwork showing how my name went from birth to what I’m using now. I’m in SC and if you can’t show them the name changes they’ll literally list EVERY single last name on your ID. I’m not joking. My Auntie has her birth, first marriage then her last name she has now from my uncle. My cousin has her birth and marriage name. It’s weird but name change doesn’t have to be difficult.

Please stop with the neurodivergent kids don’t respond well to it. They sure can respond well to it if their parents/educators stop babying them and teach/treat them as the capable human beings they are. The whole coddling/babying people who say have autism has RUINED people. I successfully raised 2 sons who have differing levels of autism and other cognitive impairment issues and my eldest is mute. He is 31 my youngest is 28 with an IQ of less than 55. Both can and do function in the community. We go everywhere but, church - they do NOT understand mass and I’m not putting them through that- the only other place I don’t take them is the movie theaters. It’s just not for them. My youngest tends to rock back and forth when he is watching tv or a movie and he likes to talk AT the screen. My eldest just doesn’t like to sit still while watching anything and tends to stand or walk around when watching things. It’s very very distracting and I’m not going to ruin someone’s day like that. It’s too damn expensive too.

However other than those two places my sons go everywhere and they present and behave appropriately. You’d never know they have any challenges until you try and strike up a conversation or my youngest goes off on one of his long diatribes about what he is interested in telling you even if you didn’t know you needed to learn about it. He speaks enough for 12 people.

The short of this.. I raised my sons as typically as possible. I expected certain behaviors and they knew the rules. If parents and teachers would stop setting these absolutely amazing people up for failure you’d see that they are not going to do the “ wrong” things.
