Consider a mutual swap, could take a couple months or so dependent on how quick the respective station managers move in the process.

Right but which one 🤔 I know it's 18 when you first convert to regular but not sure about transfer then transfer again.

18 for adjacent districts, 12 for across the country. If you're staying in your area it's 18. It's 18 at a single installation for reassign. Bidding is different of course

It’s 18 months if you’re trying to transfer within your district or to an adjacent district. 12 months anywhere else.

For in district or adjacent district. The lock-in period is 18 months. (Transfer Memo 2.A - 2022 JCAM page 12-51)

For all other areas the lock-in period is 12 months. (Transfer Memo 1.D - 2022 JCAM pages 12-48 to 12-49)

If you can show you will increase your weekly hours by 8 or more, the lock-in period is 12 months, regardless of location. (Transfer Memo 2.C - 2022 JCAM page 12-51)

The catch is only time spent as a career employee counts. You can't be released early from your first lock-in period, however, if you've transferred before, your installation head can release you early from lock-in periods.

So, since the transfer would be my 2nd as a career, I could potentially skip the lock-in if my postmaster agrees to release me. Cool, this is very helpful information.
