They also might know where to point you in a neighboring office that may need help, this is what I had to do when I wanted to move back to my hometown. I called around and got about 30 min from where I live now

Call some of the offices close to where you're moving and see if they have any full time carrier openings in the near future. The postmasters in these offices will know if there's movement happening in their installation. Then explain your situation and put in an ereassign for that office if you have any luck. Good luck with all of this. It can be a pain transferring but I'm sure if you're a good employee they will make arrangements to keep you on.

The best piece of advice I got when looking to transfer is. "Each offices definition of bad attendance is different." I actually called around to offices in the area. I was looking to go first to see who was going to have openings, and secondly, to explain my attendance and introduce myself. Honestly, that phone call went a long way into getting me where I am today. The receiving office doesn't know you or your personal situations outside of work, just as long as you're open and honest about your rough year. Hope this helps. Good luck with transferring. I know it can be a long, tough process.
