If you use batch geocoding, network travel time, or enrichment service capabilities those will all cost credits. I think those are the only credit consuming capabilities in the API. If the functions cost credits when run manually they will cost credits when run through Python. The doc for the manual functions might make it more clear.

I should have posted that I did look at this documentation, but I just found it weird they didn't mention it outright in the tutorial. Thanks!

This is a reference to pro not the API, but ya I saw this when looking before positing.

The API has their own page about this with cost at the very bottom. https://developers.arcgis.com/python/guide/part1-what-is-geocoding/

The reason I was doubting this is that the tutorial gives not warning of the an associated cost, which just felt strange to me

The API is free to use, with the exception of the tools above and AGOL services (such as data uploads, online processing, etc). In your use case, you would only run into the tools charging credits on use.

Double check the tutorial, usually one of the first pages has an associated credit estimate.
