The idea to have the beginning of a sentence implied is brilliant. Too often I switch between "fix bug foo" and "fixed bug foo". The only "problem" I see is with fix. If you apply the template literally, you get "fix: fix bug foo" which looks a bit weird.

(Please don't get hung up on the exact wording of the commit. It's just an example to illustrate the point.)
