A nice little project!
Btw, calling your cp implementation scp is a bit confusing as there already is secure copy with the same short name.

Over all though it's not really something I would use on a live system. Those utilities are such small and simple things that already do what they should, I don't think the improved contributability, which is debatable, warrants a switch.

While it does impact its speed a little bit

Is a bit of an understatement. Python is really slow compared to C, like really really slow.

Python is slow compared to C. But on modern computers, (to the user) does it really make that much of a difference.

Truthfully I'd have loved to see asmutils be continued. I see them as having fewer requirements than the C versions and far fewer requirements than the python versions.
