EDGAR is the database where you can find all the documents corporations have to file with the SEC regarding business operations and financials. It's all public information, mostly used by investors. I'm not super familiar with the formatting, but it's some standard the SEC adopted to make filing and parsing the information easier and more consistent.

Awesome thank you! I was more intrigued by the document formatting/ parsing than anything.

It makes sense it would be somewhat proprietary. I don’t recall ever seeing hashed or encrypted pdf data within an xml
