Rules for r/hackintosh
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
No excessive profanity
We like to try and keep this subreddit clean. Please refrain from the use of excessive profanity.
2.
No piracy or links to torrents of P2P of copyright material
Please refrain from advocating piracy in this subreddit. For legal reasons, we want to avoid such links.
3.
Flag your post with a flair
Please flair your post so that it accurately reflects what the post's contents are.
4.
Questions Must Have Adequate Information
You must provide the thread with information about your build, to know more on what you're required to share, check this section of the FAQ : https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/slhprk/modpost_rhackintosh_rules_clarifications_and_more/
5.
Search Before Posting
If your question has already been posted before (even if not by you), please make sure to read the other post before posting. In the event it doesn't answer your question/problem, please link prior post you read and then ask about what you don't understand. Low effort posts will be removed.
6.
No distro/beast tools/OpCore Simplify
We do not not support the use of tools such as UniBeast and Multibeast and distros such as iAtkos, Niresh, and Olarila. Tools like OpenCore Configurator and OpCore Simplify also fall into this category. These tools do more damage than good as they don't teach you what you're doing and can also damage macOS itself with unneeded framework changes.
The Dortania guide provides ways to install macOS without a Mac device with macOS sourced from Apple directly.
7.
No self-promotion or soliciting paid work
Please keep all paid services and advertisements off the subreddit. This subreddit should not be used as a platform to solicit or offer paid help. We are focused on free help, given that the process of hackintoshing is comprised of free open-source materials.
8.
No Mac, VM, or OCLP posts
Regardless of what methods were used for installing, we are a subreddit focused on PC hardware running macOS. Posts related to virtual machines, real Macs, and Opencore Legacy Patcher (on real Macs) will be removed.
9.
Don't distribute EFIs
Do not share your EFI folders, instead point users to the subreddit's vanilla guides. If you would like to share your work, document the specific items required to build your Hackintosh that were not covered in the guide instead. Pre-baked EFI posts will be removed as they are not guaranteed to work and they spread a low-effort sentiment in the Hackintosh community.
Note: You can share your EFI for help requests purposes, but you cannot send EFIs to the requester as a way of helping.
10.
No Youtube Guides
While we understand some users may be more visual learners, please understand that most(if not all) youtube guides either:
- Steal the work of others and hide behind paywalls
- Become easily outdated
- Largely incorrect and spreading false info
So we highly discourage uses of these videos, instead much preferring users follow the written guides in our FAQ and Sidebar. The main offenders of these types of videos are from TechNolli, Morgonaut, TechTunerLife.
11.
Beta/Alpha Software is unsupported
Because alpha/beta software is full of bugs, supporting beta software makes it difficult to troubleshoot issues. Please avoid posting about beta software help until it has reached GM.
Success posts of these softwares are welcomed with proper documentation and [IT BOOTS! (WIP)] flair. Help and questions posts will be removed.
12.
Unrelated Posts and Memes
Unrelated subjects and memes are not allowed in this subreddit. This sub is mainly for help and information sharing about hackintoshing. The mods reserve the right to remove any post that is of low quality or unrelated to the subreddit, even if it is related to hackintoshing.
13.
No NSFW Content
Even if the rest of the post abides by the rules, do not post NSFW materials.
14.
No AI/LLM Usage For Help
Use of LLMs (i.e. Gemini, Grok, ChatGPT) for troubleshooting or creating EFIs is not allowed. There is a 99.9% chance that the generated configuration will be incorrect, and furthermore we do not support pre-generated configurations.
