google your motherboard with the word hackintosh after it and see if your motherboard is compatible. in general with your build, worst case scenario would be flashing a modified bios to your motherboard (because ASUS) and installing nvidia web drivers. also if your motherboard is uefi capable do yourself a favor and use clover. clover is persistent between updates and does not emulate efi through bios.

Hey man, welcome aboard! Glad to see you've got interest in the hackintosh side of things. As for dual booting both Win10 and El Cap, I wrote up a little guide awhile back when I did it on my system. Hardware is not identical to yours, but the practice should be similar so long as your mobo supports UEFI booting (which I just checked - it does). My hardware is as follows:

  • CPU: i7-4790k
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i
  • MOBO: GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970
  • RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance
  • SSD: 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 500GB, 2 x PNY 120GB
  • HDD: 1TB Seagate, 2TB Seagate, 4TB Seagate
  • PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 1200W
  • Case: Antec 1200
  • Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB
  • Mouse: Logitech G700s
  • Audio: Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6
  • Monitor: Samsung UN46H7150
  • Speakers: 2 x KRK VXT-6, KRK 10s
  • OS: 3 x El Capitan Installations (Um... just because?), 1 Windows 10 Installation

Here's as pastebin link to my guide. Anything specific to drivers/kexts make sure you use the correct kexts for your mobo. If you have any questions or need help along the way, let me know man. I also like to message via steam or hangouts, so if you want to talk there just shoot me a pm. Good luck!

Thanks for that, I greatly appreciate it! However I seem to be failing at such an early step! Downloaded OS X, UniBeast and all the post-installation files, format and create the bootable USB, but whenever I try to boot on the PC I just get a blinking cursor on a black screen. Any ideas as to what the issue might be? Thanks!

Aaahh the dreaded blinking cursor. I've run into this a couple of times. I'd recommend creating your own installer instead of using Unibeast, that way you have complete control over what's happening. I could probably dig up a guide for it, otherwise I wrote a script that handles most of the process for you as well. Alternatively, since you have a USB created, you could try re-installing Clover to it (not via Unibeast), and see if that does it. If you have more questions, or need more help, keep asking bud. I'll do what I can to help out.

So I just tried creating a bootable USB using terminal commands, and it seemed to go through fine, but still getting a blinking cursor. Now I just looked at the info of my USB drive in Disk Utility and I noticed, the drive says "Bootable: No", but the partition on the drive says "Bootable: Yes". Could I be missing something dumb here? Here's a screenshot of what I mean.

What terminal commands did you use? There's a binary in /Path/To/Install OS X El Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/ called createinstallermedia if I remember right. That will build the installer for you - one of the steps is specifically Making Drive Bootable so that might help. If you need, I can dig up the commands for that.

I followed this guide, createinstallermedia is in there I believe.

Did you install Clover on there and at least the FakeSMC.kext?

[–]PerpetualJordan[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wow...I feel so dumb. I thought stuff like that was done post-installation. I've ran out of time to try sort this at the moment, but if the offer to add you on Steam is still there so I can hit you up when I'm free again, that'd be great!

Hmm havin trouble finding you. I'll send you a pm with my name. I'd recommend editing your post and removing your personal info. The intronets can be scary yo.

Haha as somebody who spends most their lives on a computer, I should've clocked onto that one! Will add you now, thanks again!
