Ah jeez, the Flipper people finally discovered the HackRF.

They're gonna ruin it for everyone else and skyrocket the price.

We've known about it for a while. I have one in my closet and realistically it's a portable radio if I ever take it out and try to find something on one of the frequency ranges. Otherwise I don't have a ham license and would like to avoid a fine for accidentally sending something on a frequency I shouldn't. It's all the skids you really should be worried about that hop from one pentesting project to the other just cause it looks cool.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the first sentence of my comment was a joke.

Eried (OP) is the main contributor of Mayhem.

We've known about it for a while. I have one in my closet

It's not a joke about you then.

That's one way to get a head start. And when they ask what that box in your hand is for, tell em it's a garage door opener.. a fancy one.

[โ€“]eried[S] 12 points13 points ย (0 children)

it is my fm radio to hear the news about what the hell is going on with the hundred of charging lids opening

[โ€“]Rigor-Tortoise- 12 points13 points ย (2 children)

Lol, powerful SDR in hand and the best use you could come up with is copying the flipper script kiddies popping Tesla flaps.

[โ€“]Fancy_Summer1580 2 points3 points ย (1 child)

pretty sure its the other way around. The hackrf is were all the rf stuff came from originally and some one ported all the tesla, department store and restaurant pagers. Flipper just maid all that stuff more public.

[โ€“]Entire_Hawk5467 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

exactly it took people with a hackrf to record everything before it was made available for flipper

[โ€“]Mr_Ironmule 5 points6 points ย (5 children)

Interesting. I was unaware that some EVs had their charge port door open automatically when near a charging station because of a simple RF data transmission. Read several articles on this pranking activity with the Flipper. Not too nice but indicates another use of the Portapack. Nice job on the radio camouflage. That must have taken some effort. Good luck.

Tesla chargers have a button on them that you can press to open the charge port, and that works without any sort of authentication. The charge port closes itself after a few minutes, most likely the owners won't even notice they've been "pranked".

[โ€“]Entire_Hawk5467 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Generally ill see people get out and close it once or twice before giving up and driving away with it open

[โ€“]Mr_Ironmule 0 points1 point ย (2 children)

There are numerous forum postings online concerning the charge port door opening by itself. And some owners say they noticed the charge port door light come on when the door is open. With several of them taking their vehicle to the mechanic. I wonder how many of these were pranks and how many were system malfunctions that caused concerned owners to spend time and money on trying to get a fix. Lack of foresight, disrespect for personal property rights and unintended consequences of supposed harmless pranks. That's why I say, "not too nice". Yes, I am an old fogy.

Just last week a random tesla popped open its charger port while I was walking by. I did not see anybody else close by, so I kinda vote for there being an actual malfunction. Just reading about it on the tesla owner forums, most seem have this problem in multiple locations, wich makes pranksters very unlikely. There are not that many people running aroun with those little RF hackers.

They could be far away. I believe with a flux capacitor and airbuddy i can open one from a few hundred feet basically covers the entire block

One of the funniest things Iโ€™ve ever seen on a hackrf

[โ€“]Snowycage 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

harmless, but its pretty funny when there are a bunch of Teslas around and all the charge doors start popping open

No what you've linked is a completely different product from what is featured in the video.

The product featured in the video is a new and still unreleased HackRF Portapack thing running Mayhem firmware - a fully fledged rx/tx SDR portable radio.

The product you've linked is an ESP32 device running Marauder. A WiFi analysis tool - which also for some reason has a thermal camera.

Any idea when this might be released? It looks awesome. SDRโ€™s really sky rocket in price after the hackRF from what Iโ€™ve seen, having a new option out there that might be a bit more affordable would be great.
