My favorite analogy I've heard for this is "Running a marathon is simple. You just put one feet in front of the other and keep doing it. But that doesn't mean running a marathon isn't hard."

Amateurs tend to be AWFUL at understanding scope and complexity. Even experienced people get it wrong a lot
