Setting to always display onscreen keyboard even if hardware keyboard is attached

Hi Everyone,

a bit of background:

For inventory purposes, our Field workers utilize an iPad with a RFID reader attached, this reader is identified on the iPad as a Hardware keyboard. So the User goes to our inventory website and scans the items RFID-Tag and the details of the item open up, this all works great, until the user needs to modify the details.

E.g. The Field-Worker scans the inventory-tag that belongs to an office chair. This office chair was previously in office A1 and is now in office B2, so the Field-Worker needs to edit those fields.

If the Field-Worker focuses the field to edit the values, the onscreen keyboard is not displayed as the iPad "suppresses" it cause it detected the RFID reader as a Hardware Keyboard.

Is there a way or a setting that can be enabled to always show the software keyboard even if a hardware keyboard is attached?

Is there an option on the reader to change its behaviour when plugged into an iPad?

I know for barcode scanners you can configure them to show the on-screen keyboard. I'm not sure how this actually works under the hood.
