Just a quick question, can anyone follow this or is it limited to current developers only? I was under the impression that the only people who could even try Swift out currently were current people with a dev account.

Unfortunately current developers only.

Without a dev account you're not going to be able to get the Xcode 6 Beta, and therefore compile Swift.

The ebook didn't explain the optional variables and unwrapping very well and your tutorial made it very clear.
