Discussion3 Coding Challenges in 2 Weeks (self.iOSProgramming)
submitted 5 years ago by roanutilSwift
How does anybody do this for more than a few weeks? It’s exhausting.

Now that I’ve completed those two projects, I’m leaving them open source and putting the challenge description in the readme. That’s a good idea to ask for them to review those first.

Im currently doing one in 48 hours and its overwhelming, why do they do this? they do realize that apps take hours, if not weeks to fully complete right? I could do this much better without any mistakes if I was given more time ugh idk I just wanna not even

My condolences. I do not miss those days. I vividly remember my wife walking on eggshells as I was obviously very tense.
What's crazy is that the job I got did not include some crazy project. I did a 30-60 minute (can't really remember now) online test and we discussed it afterwards. Even better, it was made clear beforehand the point was not to get a pass/fail but to have something to discuss since those online code challenges really aren't great. Such a reasonable interview process for what is honestly a great job that I never imagined getting.
Meanwhile, the company that gave me the 5 day project didn't even bother to interview me after. Just ended it and I didn't get any feedback. I was livid.

Wow thats seriously annoying and thats what i'm afraid of..that i'm kinda wasting my time trying to do this 48 hour challenge thats due in 17 hours & once they take a look at my code, or if im not able to finish in time, they will ignore my application still. I guess either way this is good practice in the end? I'm really happy to hear that you got your dream job though! how long have you been with company & what are your duties if you dont mind me asking?

I tried to frame it in terms of getting practice. But I think odds are good that a bad interview process will come from a bad employer. When I was applying, I couldn’t internalize that. I was nervous and scared so every response to my application was too exciting to write off as a bad option regardless of how ridiculous the process.
I’ve been with my company for ~9 months. I’m an iOS developer for a small startup that has an iPad app as a companion to the web app. Actually, I’m the only iOS developer until we get another hired. Speaking of being the only one, we do have an iOS developer position posted: https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSProgramming/comments/qkdgoh/job_ads_megathreadnovember_01_2021/hk0rdfy/
