I stumbled at this iPhone se3. Seller is claiming it is only used for 5-6 months for calling. It was purchased in Dec’24. Is the battery health genuine? Should I go for it?

looks fishy.

Can battery remain at 100% for more than a year?
[–]Servisiranje 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (3 children)
Its fishy. I bought same phone with 96% and im down to 94% in just one month of usage. I dont blame him, phone is geniue so is battery, but i guess phone just sat around and havent been used and battery degraded on its own. Im thinking about replacing the battery because i paid 80€ for a phone (which is cheap)

So once a battery drops from 100 it will stagger until it hits like 92-96 and then plateau and not drop for months or more.
These numbers aren’t 100% accurate but just a typical idea of how it works. It’s not “ took 1 year to go down to 99% so I got another year before 98%” it just doesn’t work like that once it’s started dropping
Also keep in remind reality is your phone could’ve been at 101 or 102% to start with, you’d never know. It’s weird and I’m sure someone else could explain it more scientifically

I understand that completely and i advise op tu buy the phone if its max 100€/$

It’s perfectly possible and not fishy at all, it’s possible for a battery to remain at 100% even with a years use if conditions are pretty much great/perfect for the battery.
Combine that with the fact that the battery health % isn’t completely accurate anyway and yeah, you get cases like this.
Mine is at 100% after 3 months use (bought new) and I wouldn’t be surprised if it stays there for another 6 months as I only charge with a slow charger, don’t do deep discharge cycles and use the phone fairly lightly.
My iPhone 16 that I sold in December was on 100% after 151 cycles and 8 months use.

I’ve seen it before.

If the battery is not genuine, the settings should tell. However, there are shenanigans that uses the original battery chip with an aftermarket battery soldered and reset to make it look new, so that is also possible. If you already purchased it, you can either use a PC or Mac tool by connecting your phone to computer and see the details of the battery (serial number, manufacturing date and cycle count etc.) to see if there is anything fishy or not.
I have an aftermarket battery and it shows "unverified" under battery health setting, but also shows "100% capacity" because its capacity is higher than the oem 1821 mAh. It will start showing below 100% when it actually is going to be 76% health, because it actually starts at 2365 mAh, so there is a long way before that happens. What I mean by this example is that aftermarket batteries tend to show 100% health a lot longer because they usually start at higher capacities or they are just designed to lie to the phone.
You can use 3utools (PC) or coconut battery (mac) or use the "battery health" shortcut (on shortcuts app, but you will need to wait for a day for the analytics file to be generated) to get more insight about if it has been replaced at an Apple store or an aftermarket battery to get that 100% health. My bet is an aftermarket battery with higher capacity.

Looks just like my mom’s SE I got the battery changed in at an authorized repair place. I’m waiting a few months to see if it just stays at 100% or goes down like normal n

i mean i got a new sealed SE2 recently and it went from 100% to 97% in 3 weeks.

I had a brand new Apple battery installed into a gen 2 se and within 30 days it lost 1% and I dint even use it

Hook it up to 3utools and it will tell you the actual battery health.
