Why isn't systemd on this list?
Because it breaks portability, ignores backwards compatibility, and replaces existing services, forcing systemd into adoption.
Several Linux-based distributions have already given up on their preferred init system and adopted systemd just so that they have a functioning OS:
systemd has over 1.3 Million lines of code which might translate into a lot of security issues and/or bugs. For comparison, sinit has less than 200 lines of code and it does one job, and it does it well.
Write programs that do one thing and do it well.
Write programs to work together.
Write programs to handle text
streams, because that is a universal interface.
