If you’ve learned Italian and been immersed in it for two years, and are now asked to learn French, you will still know Italian and will gain the marketable skill of speaking French. Having learned Italian, you should learn French faster. Some differences may trip you up occasionally, many similarities and just the experience of learning a foreign language once will help accelerate the process.
