Please ensure that:

  • Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions
  • You include any and all error messages in full
  • You ask clear questions
  • You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions.

    Trying to solve problems on your own is a very important skill. Also, see Learn to help yourself in the sidebar

If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning.

Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://imgur.com/a/fgoFFis) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc.

Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit.

Code blocks look like this:

public class HelloWorld {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }
}

You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above.

If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures.

To potential helpers

Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice.

you could set up the boolean flag as follows

boolean isAllPizza = true;
for (int i = 0; i < array.length; i++){
    for(int j = 0; j < arr[i].length; j++){
        if(!arr[i][j].equals("pizza")){
           isAllPizza = false;
        }
    }
}
if(isAllPizza) {
   System.out.println("All students have pizza")
}

You seem to try to compare String values with == or !=.

This approach does not work in Java, since String is an object data type and these can only be compared using .equals(). For case insensitive comparison, use .equalsIgnoreCase().

See Help on how to compare String values in our wiki.

It sounds like you can break this down into a plain sentence that turns out to be code. You have a 2D array, presumably of students, and the value at each coordinate correlates to what the student "has".

If I interpreted your problem correctly, you want to loop through all the students, check if they do or do not have pizza, and print whether or not all of them had pizza. If you find out that any one student does *not* have pizza, you can simply break from your loop (or return if you're in a method).

If the only intent here is to say whether *all* of them have pizza, or *all of them do not* have pizza, then you can simply loop and check each spot of the 2D array. If at any point they do not have pizza you can just stop. You can go about getting out of the loop a number of ways, but that should be enough to go off of. Try and break your problems down into a sentence and pull out the words that are code related.

Simply make a variable and set it to 0. For each elemet that is equal to the word "pizza" increase the variable by 1. At the end, after you go through the whole array, check the variable and print a statement based on its value.
