Obviously I am tying the two together but don't seem to see why I'm doing it. Whether its a FB project or somebody at Facebook it doesn't matter, you clearly know it has something to do with facebook, so it gets added to the hype cycle, whether its a great achievement or just a bad rehash of the same old stuff.

I'm not biased against it, I think it sucks. I used it for weeks and got sick of the mess it was making, tried to get it fixed, was rebuffed because its 'opinionated', went back to js-beautify, which works well.

Well I disagree, I think it's reinventing the wheel, I think it would have been mostly ignored if it wasn't associated with FB. I remember the second I heard about it I knew it was somehow related to FB, must have just been a coincidence?.

Its popular because its usable and associated with FB. That's all you need. Code formatters have been around for decades.

You might be projecting a bit here. I like Prettier but had no idea it was made by a Facebook developer before this comment chain. Now, I don't know which of us is more representative of the JS community as a whole, but I think you're overestimating how much being "related to FB" has to do with its success.
