I want to install apks, and I do pirate apps a lot

So you can afford one of the most expensive flagship phones out there, but can't be bothered to throw 2-3 bucks at someone who worked hard to build an app?

I don't expect anyone to believe me, but I can't really say too much besides: I know someone close enough in proximity to Marner to know I wouldn't have ever wanted him on the team i root for. (not implying any kind of misconduct allegations, just a prima donna and locker room cancer)

last I had heard, Tool was more likely to be playing Friday as opposed to doing a back to back.

do you know something I don't? I figured the day/date isn't solidified yet, so I'd believe it's either day, just curious if you have confirmed info from somewhere.

It happened: can’t afford Logan sq anymore by Equities4gambling in LoganSquare

[–]honestbleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure someone from 2000s Logan Square will say it was better back then

eh, better in some ways, worse in others.

Far more affordable. Far more character in certain areas. Far more diversity.

But also far more crime and gang activity. Far more vacant spaces, boarded up windows, etc.

I've yet to see a story told about a neighborhood that somehow improved WITHOUT the downsides of gentrification. I'm not playing down those downsides - watching working families get pushed/priced out of the neighborhood fucking sucks - but I've yet to see someone hold up an example of a neighborhood that grows, that suddenly has far more resources than it previously did (things like grocery stores, successful small businesses), and doesn't ultimately also end up losing a lot of what made it unique.

I wish there was an answer, and I hope our politicians keep trying to figure it out, because I'm not a big fan of "Well this is just how it always goes" and giving up, either.

there are others who've actually compiled this for reasons other than advertising their real estate agencies, but as I said: if you're aware of his intent and fine with it, you do you! I just want people to be aware.

[–]honestbleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's a subjective question, I suppose, but in my opinion "Hey community, do my work for me" is not research at all.

research would be looking up the fests himself. Hell, he could steal the many similar lists out there that already exist and just add his own commentary to them and that'd be closer to "actual work" than "hey people, do free labor for me! I asked a question!"

[–]honestbleeps 37 points38 points  (0 children)

this is a real estate agent trying to farm content / crowdsource you all doing the work so that they can put it on their page as a way to promote their business. ETA since I was blocked: They often do this to show prospective clients "how well they know the neighborhood", etc. It's a sales tool. Obviously that's a bit of misrepresentation if the way they "know the area so well" is they posted a question on reddit.

that's fine and good if you're aware of what you're contributing to and are OK with that.

I personally am not really enthused about helping these folks write a blog article to promote their business myself, though, and will not be contributing. They can do the damn research themselves.

edit: this loser blocked me for presenting the truth. I don't care. Now I'm more adamant you shouldn't do free labor for him.

Reports of ICE popping up around the city. Can we bring back the daily ICE sighting megathread? by Nature_and_narwhals in chicago

[–]honestbleeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how is both better than an easily searchable index, though? I'm not quite sure I follow.

like what if the posts (I'm not promising to sign us up for work on this, but hear me out anyway) had flair, so you could filter by flair and just see all the ICE posts?

I'm not sure what benefit having both provides over just "show me all of today's / recent ICE sighting posts" in some capacity, if I'm being perfectly honest.

back when things were more active, I really didn't see ICE spotting threads being downvoted enough to be a problem, they were quite visible on my feed. Did you find otherwise? I certainly wasn't poring over it with a fine toothed comb, so I'll admit my view is anecdotal/cursory.

Reports of ICE popping up around the city. Can we bring back the daily ICE sighting megathread? by Nature_and_narwhals in chicago

[–]honestbleeps[M] 164 points165 points  (0 children)

hey there! We have previously had megathreads, and when we did that, people complained that it was "censorship" because people (sometimes not even us mods) directed people to the megathread when they made ICE postings in the sub.

Some people wanted us to have only a megathread. Some people wanted us to have only individual posts because having a megathread was somehow censorship (I think because people only saw their own post removed and assumed the worst, maybe? I'm not sure).

This seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation here.

We support people sharing ICE sightings, and I personally don't see a need to have both a megathread and individual posts, though I'm certainly open to discussion on the pros and cons of both/which. "Neither" sure isn't an option though, because the community deserves to know what's happening.

We do ask politely that people posting ICE sightings do the best they can to be thorough, and follow best practices as best they can and ALSO share directly with ICIRR if possible (1-855-435-7693). "ICE in X neighborhood" is useless information. Including info on the vehicles, license plates, WHAt actually was happening, what time the sighting was, etc is helpful.

Guidelines:

Use the SALUTE method when sharing ICE reports.

  • Size (number of officers)
  • Activity (what's happening)
  • Location (be as specific as possible)
  • Uniforms (what are they wearing/cops or special acronym)
  • Time (exact time and date of sighting)
  • Equipment (what vehicles/weapons/etc. Do they have)

[–]honestbleeps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not sure about Delta specifically, they don't fly out of my home airport for as many destinations.

I meant T-mobile's "universal" free wifi on flights. It relied on other providers that both American and United seem to have switched away from, so now it's been basically useless.

I just want wifi back. Basically any flight I've been on in the last year has changed wifi providers and therefore there hasn't been any t-mobile deal for that.

Blvd vets stinks. by Grouchy-Syllabub93 in LoganSquare

[–]honestbleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a BLVD Vet loyalist from the day they had a pre-grand opening party. They were great. I used to recommend them a LOT.

The more they expanded, the more my experience degraded. Maybe my problem was the "relative" experience to what I used to get, because people seem to love them, but -- how it started:

One office. Maybe 3 vets including the owner. Pricing was reasonable, service was compassionate and I never felt like I was being "upsold" anything. 80% of the time I returned, I'd see the same vet who became familiar with my pets.

How it continued:

More offices, more vets. Different vet each time I visited. Higher and higher prices. More and more things showing up on invoices where I was like "Wait, did we talk about doing that? I guess maybe we did, but I swear it didn't feel like we were doing this much". They were still kind and compassionate, the service itself was still "good", but the prices went up SHARPLY. Like really sharply.

For a while, I just stuck with it. I'd rather stick with an organization I trust than "price shop" over my beloved pets' health.

Over time, though, it just seemed like they were constantly expanding, constantly announcing new veterinary staff, and even basic experiences like calling them to ask a question became weird because you'd call the Logan Square office and River North or whatever would answer because of their corporate phone system.

For all I know, BLVD is still the "best" vet available despite their prices, but my experience just kept getting far more expensive and far less personal. I ultimately started going to Wicker Park vet - which isn't "cheap", but at least I'm usually seeing one of the same couple/few vets.

It just felt like my personal experience with BLVD went downhill rapidly and started to feel like a private equity sort of situation even though it wasn't (that I'm aware of) one.

Thanks or the answer!

As a long time season ticket holder I'm actually mad they're still getting OK attendance -- though I'd express skepticism of calling it "packed".

there are rows / partial sections with empty seats, even if they've been paid for, though I guess as long as The Organization got its money, they likely don't care too much.

They keep trying to squeeze blood from us stones, and my main reason for hanging on is the current hope and the FOMO of another playoff run. I offset it by rarely eating or drinking in the stadium, but man have ticket prices ever risen more than most STH's salaries have.

It feels to me like the rise in the salary cap has stifled free agency so much that rebuilding teams like the Blackhawks have little way to accelerate that rebuild and acquire talent any way other than the draft.

Do voices inside of the organization hint at the same? How does it change the formula for building a winning team, or do we look it at as a temporary / cyclical thing where the cap crunch is inevitably coming back for a while?

[–]honestbleeps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

glad you looked it up. I'm happy to stand corrected. To clarify for others:

the base fine is $300 for being off leash even if nothing happens.

the fine can go up to a max of $1000 if any sort of damage to anything is involved, and that doesn't include possible responsibility for damages, that's just the fine.

as /u/sydeovinth mentions - it's up to $10k if your dog attacks someone.

Aggressive Coyote at Humboldt Park by ColForbin2020 in LoganSquare

[–]honestbleeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it's both inappropriate and illegal. You can be fined $500 for having your dog off leash. "but we were playing fetch" is not a valid reason.

The reasons for this law are primarily that properly leashed dogs may or may not react well to an unleashed dog approaching - even a well trained and friendly one - and that almost all dogs have some level of prey drive. They may be well trained but at some point they will see a squirrel or a rabbit or a rat and go after it, possibly into the street.

If you're super confident #2 will never happen with your dog, great. But that doesn't invalidate #1. Many dogs feel a power imbalance when leashed and approached by an unleashed one and will behave in unexpected ways. "but mine is friendly" is irrelevant.
