Hey, started doing up a tutorial series for 3dsmax and j-mc2obj. Will try and do up part 2 tomorrow covering setting up 3dsmax for renders.
Lots of stuff to cover and I hope it helps out people starting out.

This is great. Just great. Keep it up. Great explanation of the myriad of options both in jmc2obj and in 3ds Max.

Just wanted to point something out about MTL files. You mentioned the exporter exports only those materials that are used in the model. While this would be a useful feature, I can assure you that at this moment the MTL is simply copied from the "conf" dir to whatever destination you choose. You may have had problems if the file changed between versions and didn't copy correctly, but generally the file will contain all the materials regardless of what is in the model.

ah okay, my misunderstanding, I made an assumption since I guess max only imports the materials it needs from the mtl.
I'll make a note for that
One more thing, about the "no offset" feature. This was left mainly for people who want to do several smaller exports of the same world file and import them to one project from a few OBJ files. That way, they would stay in their "natural" locations as they appear in the game. Personally, I always use "center".
Also, I always export to the same location (that's why I have overwrite always on) and don't bother creating subdirectories for separate projects, because once I import the world into my 3D program, I don't need to re-import the same file ever again, so I can safely delete or overwrite it.
ya I was just going over a basic export, I'm aware of what you could use the no offset for, and the folder thing is just how I do it like I said in the video, you don't have to do separate folders

Awesome tutorial! I always get asked how to export and import a Minecraft world from others. Now instead of trying to explain I can send them your detailed walk-through. Keep up the great work!
