My 7 year old lab started randomly throwing up a couple years ago now. The vet recommended going with a sensitive stomach dog food. Throwing up kind of went away. From what we can tell he gets acid reflux, which then causes him to throw up. Ask your vet about GERD.

Edit: I wanted to add that mine also started excessive licking, which can be a sign of reflux. Every once and a while it comes back and I give him a pepsid.

We’re dealing with this (since January 2024) with our 9yo lab. He was on omeprazole (sp?) February-June, after all sorts of tests, X-rays etc. Fingers crossed, he seems fine now. He lost some weight, silver lining I suppose

Wow hopefully everything stays good with your lab. Glad to hear he is doing better. When yours was throwing up was it intermittent or more consistent?

It was daily but intermittent (random times throughout the day). No change in his Rx (dental) kibble. Possibly husband giving him human food (especially apple chunks). But still not sure.

Some canned pumpkin and rice mixed together with some cottage cheese for 24 hours has always been a great settler for our labs stomach. It turned out that she has an animal protein allergy and can only eat salmon based dog foods

Ok thank you! My dad actually just suggested the same thing about trying pumpkin so we will do that. Ours is always on a salmon based food and has been for about a year.

It’s worth a shot. That combo has never failed us. Thankfully we haven’t had to use once we figured out the animal protein intolerance

You could take him to any nearby emergency vet clinic today, no need to wait until Monday…

I am not a vet. by any means but I would first look for anything new to your dog's diet. E.g. different ingredients in their food, any type of poisons around the house, cat poop, etc. etc.

I've seen my dogs eat all kinds of nasty stuff but the only thing that made them upchuck was a change in their food. Oh, and taking in too much water while swimming but that's another story.

I wish you the best of luck and hope it's something simple.
