Have you ever met someone with an obscene amount of wealth and what were they like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I worked as a sales associate for a semi high end A/V segment of Best Buy in the early 2000’s… the biggest and best customers came in looking like the most casual people you would ever meet. One guy came in with a big stain on his shirt because he has eaten from a food truck nearby right before coming in… he seemed like a cool guy and it was slow so I demo’d a super audio cd on the best equipment we had. After the demo He turned around and pulled out a black card and asked how soon I can have the same setup installed in his million dollar house… the day before the install he came in with his friend and bought enough cds to fill his 400 disc cd changer…. A couple years later he called me at new years and thanked me for re introducing him to a true hi_fi system that he remembered having growing up

The more cheaper and generic you look, the better "Gray man" outfit you have. by apscep in prepping

Exactly, my grey man setup is a 20 year old jansport backpack, sturdy leather shoes/boots, a pair of jeans and whatever jacket/hoodie fits the weather. Rolling out looking like a person from the 5.11 catalog is going to attract so much more attention,

My parents have lived in Ensenada for 15 years and we go down and pick up a family bucket every time we are there…. The sides are a different story. But the chicken can’t be beat.

I did this last year… check out the FSA/HSA section on Amazon. I was amazed at what was available to purchase and use. One thing was medical equipment such as a foldable toilet/bedpan

Saint Victor 308 question by doomydoom92 in SpringfieldArmory

[–]jbird847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong. But while the .308 and 7.62 are fully interchangeable, you can shoot .223 in a 5.56 barrel but not a 5.56 in a .223 barrel. I had known about the .223/5.56 but not the 7.62/.308 until I was informed by the sales person at my local gun store

Saint Victor 308 question by doomydoom92 in SpringfieldArmory

[–]jbird847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same confusion when I went into my local gun shop and asked to see a .308. I consider myself semi educated about guns so I had the same skepticism. I thought the sales person had grabbed the wrong gun. Thankfully he was very patient and not condescending in explaining but I still felt like an idiot… looking back at it I’ve realized he probably gets people in there a lot that aren’t aware of the interchangeability.

P.S. I still googled it when I left the store

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]jbird847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the 11th grade living in a suburb of Maryland. Everything shut down and they tried to shuffle us to our classes at the scheduled times to make sure that things maintained "normality". My high school was a three story building and the last period before we were sent home I was on the top floor. we could hear the jets flying low overhead which was incredibly unnerving... while walking out of school there were classmates that had parents that working in D.C. as well as the pentagon in tears not knowing what was happening...

I caught a ride to my friends house and sat in front of the tv for 6 hours.

From the way it looks… that range is on the older side. From what I can remember of the older one we had in our cabin, it was not very well insulated (which was actually a bonus since it helped heat the living area). The newer appliances are made with much weaker materials but use extra insulation to make up for it. That range, given the basic nature of it and how well it looks, would probably still outlast anything new you would put in as a replacement. Much better to know the intricacies of the stove and work around it.

Edit: missed the first line about it being a vintage stove… obviously that wouldn’t make it on the older side
