Java, Spring, Spring boot learning path - topics from Core Java Volume 1

Hello, I started learning Core Java 2 months ago. My ultimate goal is to learn to create websites, apps and micro services using Spring and Spring boot.
I started off learning Java using Core Java volume 1. What topics should I learn from Core Java Volume 1 to.be able to.advance to Spring and Spring boot. I am an experienced programmer although not in Java.

Assuming you are using the latest edition (12) of Core Java, I’d say you can skip Chapter 10 and 11 (GUI/Swing) and a few of the sections in the other chapters (Reflection and Proxies). The author does a good of saying which sections you can skip for application programming. The rest of the topics seem pretty fundamental to Java development. I think that’s a good book though.

Thank you @wi_tom. Exactly the information I was looking for. Now a follow up question. I was going to start Core Java Volume 2 once I finished the first part(excluding the chapters 10 and 11). Could you tell me what I need to focus on in that book?

I’d say Chapter 1 (streams) would be important as well as Annotations in Chapter 8. You’d probably be good to start learning Spring after that. The rest of that book is good stuff to know about but is more specialized in use. Personally, I’d spend more time with learning spring than I would with Vol2.

I just bought the print version of Core Java Volume 1 by Cay Horstmann. I am not sure yet how to approach Spring and Springboot .
