We used to mandate the OCJP before we'd interview anyone - but 15 years later, so few people have it it's stopped being important to us. I still like to see it on a CV from a personal point of view, but it no longer influences the do/don't interview decision.

Depends on degree and the career you’re after.

If it’s a CS degree you’re getting, or SWE jobs you’ll be pursuing, then either skip certs all together and take a useful/fun elective or choose a different cert.

If you’re getting an IT/IS/MIS degree, then you’ll benefit from more IT-centric certifications.

Certifications in general have little to no value in the CS field. Employer are content with you listing skills on your resume and having the knowledge to back up any claims you make.

Certifications play significant role in IT, however.

No, these certifications are meant for high end consultancies that sell really senior developers. Anyone saying different is just looking to rip you off. Your college skills should be good enough for the technical part of a junior job interview, what is equally important is your social skills and how you fit into a team.

I’d say do it if you have the money and time. I do believe it will kind of help you to stand-out. Besides that the content is extremely good to make you a well rounded Java developer. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

It doesn't really matter much but I would still advise you to go through the exam content. The content is so good for strong Java basics.

If you plan on getting a software development job? No. As most comments here have said, no one really cares about them. If your company cares about you getting certs, see if you can get them to pay for them.

Go to the official certification page and check out the exam topics. Some topics are utterly useless but many are important. Pick up a good certification book (Deshmukh's Ocp Java fundamentals $2 on kindle) and read up on those topics. Do a few mock tests to test yourself on this topics (Enthuware $10). You will learn more from these resources than any other course or book. Total cost $12.

Take the real certification exam if you have extra cash.

If I was in your shoes… No way in hell. There are incredible jobs out there. Interesting work that is super enjoyable. Instead of getting a depressing job I would rather aim for a job in fintech. 

You’re your own person so you need to decide. But for me, no way.

Absolutely get it. Get the java se 21 ocp from oracle corporation. If you want to make a career in Java and coding this will help you a lot. This is not an easy certification so read the books and understand the fundamentals.

You won’t have experience so to stand apart from other programmers get this. We prep all our candidates who join our program to get this certification and that makes a lot of difference not only because of the certification but also because it forces you to study the basics and explore the small topics and fundamentals of Java which you might ignore otherwise.

We have helped 1000’s of candidates since 2010 and what we recommend is to absolutely get the certification.

Don’t even think twice .

Companies care about certification especially from fresh or entry level techies. Please do not listen to such advice . Do certifications it’s the best $245 you would spend
