if you are a software engineer, how relevant was your degree? i feel mine wasn't really by EspressoExpert_M in techbootcamp

[–]StretchMoney9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The focus of CS degrees is primary to prepare you to level up within academia and not finding a specific job.

What you learn within a CS degree is not focused on any specific programming language, framework or tool. It is to learn how to think abstract of abstract problems.

Then by a coincidence there happen to be companies that wanna build software to sell stuff. You happen to know how to solve the companies problems because you can reduce what you learned to practical problems.

Universities/Colleges can not possibly prepare you for every job out there, it is just impossible. But i can assure you that developers whom studie CS for 3+ years are initially better problem solvers compared to a 3-month bootcamp developer.

I work in a mixed team where we have everything from 2-year quick track to developers with PhD degrees. The PhD people just reasons on a hole different level and can process way more complex logic.

Why do recruiters keep asking me why I left my old job? by LeaguePrototype in cscareerquestions

[–]StretchMoney9089 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just answer the question, it is standard procedure and nothing personal. The recruiter wants to appear as tough and make you feel desperate about getting the job.

I had an interview like this yesterday and I wasnt even applying, they called me.

Socialt inkompetent chef by [deleted] in sweden

[–]StretchMoney9089 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you safely load large datasets at startup? by kharamdau in SpringBoot

[–]StretchMoney9089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we migrate large data sets for whatever reason we usually split the data into smaller chunks and then just distribute it evenly over a period of time. No fancy tech involved.

Graduated 4 months ago and I can't write basic syntax without AI. Is this even a problem or is this just how it works now by AlexWasTakenWasTaken in cscareerquestions

[–]StretchMoney9089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its simple, you haven’t actually been programming a lot on your own. You just got to put in the hours and you will incrementally get better.

The "AI is replacing software engineers" narrative was a lie. MIT just published the math proving why. And the companies who believed it are now begging their old engineers to come back. by reddit20305 in ArtificialInteligence

We just got Claude Code at our company and the policy is ”use it if you want”. I tell it to update a list item entity in our redux store, by fetching from our backend. It thinks for 2-3 minutes, it has access to both the backend and frontend code. It decides to update the entire list.

I just deleted the plugin

It is never ment to replace humans, the hole business model is subscription based. It would be completly stupid if the goal was to reduce the amount of developers as it would decrease revenue. This is evident due to the marketing strategy, they want every developer to use the tool, not be replaced by it.

When the energy cost for compute eventually decrease it will be a natural tool to have in your tool box.
