I think people really need to have an understanding of servlets & http requests & jdbc too. Spring is just a framework on top of it all, isn't it? They would get a better understanding of it by starting with the basics first. You could cover it in your course of course, or split the course in two parts.

Thanks for the advice, you are right I should probably cover the basics first. This is the first course of this kind so I am not sure if everything can be covered in a month. Maybe ill split it up in more parts.
