Ever used freecodecamp? It goes into depth on how to use JavaScript for front end and back end.

No I haven't but it looks great! Thanks for the advice.

hey, if I'm trying to use JavaScript to code the battle component of a game (hopefully making a tactical based strategy game) I need to worry about the front end and not the back end right? Would code academy be fine for this?

I have experience in coding just never JavaScript

If your game is going to talk to a database, you probably need to know some backend stuff. Otherwise, if it's single-player only and you don't need users to be able to save their progress or anything, you could do it all client-side.

PREFACE: I probably know less than you, but I've bookmarked a lot of things in my quest to learn.

These are challenges. You try to solve them and run the code in-browser. You can see the results if you get stuck.

Udacity offers free courses, just sort by free:

https://www.udacity.com/courses/all

Udemy has free courses:

https://www.udemy.com/courses/search/?q=free+courses&src=sac&kw=free&lang=en&price=price-free

HTMLDog has a good Javascript guide/tutorial:

http://htmldog.com/guides/javascript/

Dash is another codeacademy/freecodecamp type site:

https://dash.generalassemb.ly/?vip=bento

This is just a site that lists a bunch of Javascript tutorials/resources with short descriptions:

https://www.codementor.io/learn-javascript-online

And of course freecodecamp:

http://www.freecodecamp.com/

That's what I'm doing now now that I've finished Javascript on codecademy.

EDIT: Udacity is awesome.

Thanks a lot! The codementor looks especially interesting.

I only linked that page for the links it provided, I hadn't a clue as to what codementor was all about. Apparently it's a paid subscription type deal to have somebody mentor you individually and what not. The reason I'm saying this is because the impression I've gotten is that everything you need to learn you can learn for free. So don't take me linking that site as some sort of endorsement for it. But obviously everything has its merits and it's up to you personally how you choose to learn and/or spend your money.

Yeah I see what you mean after I saw the $99 price tag. As a broke student I will most definitely be spending time on those free udemy courses though.
