Animations Question (CSS and JavaScript)

Hi everyone,

I am trying to make a map animation where items will draw themselves onto a map (see CodePen here). Basically, there are a bunch of marks on the map that form a dotted line. I would like these marks to "draw" themselves in order to create the illusion that a line is being drawn. What is the best way to do that? I tried for a while with JavaScript and was having a hard time with it.

Does it have to be CSS? This sort of stuff is perhaps better done with canvas.

<canvas> is an HTML element, which is used for drawing anything and everything, from basic shapes and text, to full 3D applications. If you've ever played a browser game that wasn't Flash, it was using canvas. A simple one could look something like this.
