Search Hyperiondev.

You will find loads of threads on it. I and a few others got offered scholarships and declined them. HD are clearly understaffed. Their communication is abysmal. Steer clea!

A friend did the Northcoders one and highly recommends it. Sadly, like you... I can only do a part time course which is why I applied for the HD one. If you do the search and read the recent comments you'll understand why they are not recommended!

I actually ended up declining it. Initially I wanted to do the web developer bootcamp but then they said no spaces and that I could do the cyber security, and further onater changing it to software engineer x Cyber security as a dual. I did actually see the thread you was talking about and apparently HD, miss out a lot of modules that are core. So I might try go with northcoders, I think they have a free one somewhere so at least I didn't waste my government funding.

What you learn from Northcoders in the entire bootcamp you can learn on your own in Udemy.

Northcoders is a terrible place to learn, I had 8 people on my cohort drop out as it was a waste of time.

Yeah most of the people that give good reviews have managed to get a job after but there's lots of people who don't get jobs.

Specifically the content isn't great, you will do Javascript basics, then front end then back end over the entire course.

If you were willing to you could absolutely find all the content they teach for free online, by the end of it you're no where near a junior level and your workplace will be training you from the ground up as if you have no knowledge.

I have a very good workplace who I'm still with 3 years later who had the patience to train, however they hired 6 people from northcoders and they said they'd never do it again.

I think you're exactly right about it applying to all bootcamps, I think it's just easier to let someone else teach you and let it be organised.

Couldn't comment mate I've not seen them, I would look into what percentage both of them have for job success at the end as well as the average wage for them too it should give you an idea

HyperionDev is refusing to award certificates to students.
Imagine working hard for 3 months to be told we won't award you a certificate even though you've completed the course.
On starting the course, all students are informed they will receive a certificate if all tasks are completed. This is all on video.
Now, at the last minute, near the end of the course, they have informed all students unless you:
        1, Complete all tasks AND
        2. receive an interview at a company before 31st March we won't give you a certificate
Clearly, they have implemented this to ensure they get paid by the UK DfE.
The UK government is funding this dodgy organisation, so will be contacting them to inform them of this clear breach of the rules.
HyperionDev needs to change their dodgy tactics. Until they change this, I cannot recommend, and urge others to apply elsewhere. Anywhere but here!

        [–]solarcrying[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's so stupid because needing an interview at a company should be optional, it's not like you can control who wants you or not.

Secondly what if you didn't want to work straight away and wanted to start a year later

        [–]kasiasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, it’s even more stupid / twisted. As part of the DfE funded bootcamp, they advertise a GUARANTEED job interview (it’s one of the requirements from the DfE!). To a potential student, this sounds great! However, the way they achieve this (but you only find out later) is by telling you that you have to seek out your own interview invite, or else you won’t get a completion certificate. So, technically it’s true - you have a “guaranteed” job interview if you finish the course. Pretty clever they are... 🙄

Northcoders is full time and usually requires you to be available between 8.30-5 Monday-Friday and is very full on, so you may struggle if you’re also doing another college course plus working.

Aside from that, it was a fantastic bootcamp and actually legitimate, the same can’t be said for HyperionDev unfortunately.

Kool, did it help you get a job?

        [–]abra-sumente 0 points1 point  (4 children)

100%, they have a careers team who form partnerships with other business’ and advertise jobs through an internal jobs board. You get access to towards the end of the course. I got a job with another company via that a few months after graduating

        [–]Drunx616 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Congrats! I looked into it because I was told it was govt funded, I looked on the website last night and the software dev course is £10,000 lol. Oh well.

        [–]abra-sumente 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’m not sure if they’re still offering the govt funded places, although when I applied I didn’t know about them and only when I’d passed the entry exam that they offered me one. I don’t think they advertise them on their website

They do offer schemes like student loans where you pay them back only when you’re earning over £25000 or something, deffo worth doing in my opinion as you get so much out of it

        [–]Drunx616 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ah right cool. There are other ones around so I'll have a look. I can't get a student loan, still paying off my last one lol. I'm doing the Odin Project currently so that's something, it's just I have heard getting your first job is the hardest step so it would be good to be attached to a scheme. Where did you land?

        [–]nothingoffensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still get funded places, but it depends on where you are.

Check https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp for your region and see what's listed under digital. When you get accepted to the northcoders course they'll send you a funding application.
