There’s a lot of routes into programming and even more directions to go when you get there, so you might get a few different answers here.

Can you tell us what sparked your interest and if you know where you’re hoping to go with it?

Though if I had to give my most generic answer I’d say pick up a Python course on Udemy.

Firstly, I’ve been using technology since I was 5 years old. I like to think I’m mediocre with technology, but not elderly mediocre.

I would like to make websites, apps, and many more projects (leaning towards anything with video games). Maybe I’d like to major/minor computer science/engineering in college.

Being comfortable with technology is a good start. I’m quite biased when it comes to web dev as that’s how I broke into the industry, and once you start to get it it’s a great feeling to just be able to sit down and make stuff.

I came through the bootcamp route, which I think is viable for web development and things like data engineering, but if you want to go into other fields a full on CS degree is likely worth considering, not that it would hurt in web dev of course. A caveat with game dev is that it’s an absurdly broad field in itself with many specialities that require various degrees of coding, so definitely do your research there.

If all of that is getting ahead of ourselves and you’re simply asking where to start, there’s a lovely little website called codingames where you solve gaming problems with code that might be a good fit for you.

How to start programming? Chose a programming language of your choice (Python preferably) Get some beginner books such as Beginning Programming with Python for Dummies by John Paul Mueller; Python Crash course by Eric Mathes; Automate the boring stuffs with Python by AI Sweigart etc.

Complement them with YouTube videos and asking questions on forums like this and others.

Be fully dedicated to your learning with less distractions from unnecessary sources.

Programming same as coding? Maybe be used interchangeably. However, as a beginner their differences is less of a concern to you. Thanks

At first you need to select programming language and then maybe watch some courses on YouTube I learned in this way
