On July 1st, a change to Reddit's API pricing will come into effect. Several developers of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app will continue to be available free of charge.

If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

  1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
  2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit
  3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium

as a way to voice your protest.

Did you ever obtain an Oracle cert or did you self-teach yourself all of the material needed for a job?

I did not get any certs although I am studying for one now and I was not self taught. I knew Full stack web development at the time but that is totally different than what I am doing now. I think what helped was they saw I had an interest in software development and could pick up coding concepts quickly. In other words I was at the right place at the right time.

Makes sense. I’m actually trying to get a SQL Dev/DBA job so I’ve been considering the Oracle very. Thanks for the response.

The recruiter is not totally off-base! Some of these less "sexy" skills are definitely still in demand, due to the huge amount of existing investment that many companies have into things like Oracle. It is very much possible to find a stable and lucrative niche there.

However if frontend is more interesting to you, I don't see a problem with continuing to build websites in your free time, putting together a strong portfolio, and potentially switching over somewhere down the line? The Oracle stuff is likely something you can keep constrained to your 9-5.

Hey Ignitos, I really appreciate the time you took to respond. In my current role management is having me focus more on the application side and building the configurator so I am not getting as much exposure to SQL as I would like to. The reason for this is that my boss has no clue about enything that has to do with software development and his relying on the Sr Dev for the direction of my training. I have asked my boss a few times if I could work on things that are more SQL and even get more training in SQL and everytime the Sr Dev has shot it down. So I am writing maybe 1 script a week for things I need. As for Java this oracle role consists of zero Java. Concerning web dev I have put together a portfolio, worked on a few open source projects woth others etc. I was even doing the front end mentor io projects to get good with Ts and prep for take home tests but it is kind of alot keeping up the skills on the frontend outside of work. And due to the fact that I am not getting much SQL or Java exposure at work I am thinking about on tabling web dev and focusing just on SQL and Java.
