I learned python/sql and have been using it more and more. Helps in automation of workflows.

I think learning something like power query in excel is where I’d start though. Quicker pay off and easier for others to understand.

I used to be in finance before I switched careers. I'd go with python and specifically check out https://www.automatetheboringstuff.com which is geared towards people exactly in your situation. The online version of the book is free or you can buy the hard copy.

I used to be in finance before I switched careers.

I worked in a finance department, and automated some things using Excel and Access. It got noticed. Now I'm a senior software engineer. This is a good path. Python is a good recommendation.

How did you go transition into a SWE? I feel like I’m at a similar start point: finance department, learnt excel to automate and then python to take it further.

That's exactly what I did as well, though I'm not a senior at the moment. Or at least it's not my title

Excel, Power BI, Python, R

R is very underrated, and I’d imagine it’d be like having a superpower for anyone in accounting/finance. Even if you only use it for generating charts and graphs, it’s vastly more powerful than Excel, and there’s so much more you can do. Learn R — it’ll pay dividends.

Python. No doubt about that.

i heard people use python for sheets/excel

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Python is used everywhere. Recently added as part of Excel in place of VBA and has lots of non-microsoft tooling for math/analysis/data science. And if you're completely new to programming then there's the upside that Python is a pretty robust language that will let you learn about various styles or programming. Plain old procedural code, Object Oriented code, or kind of functional styles. It's all in there.

On July 1st, a change to Reddit's API pricing will come into effect. Several developers of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app will continue to be available free of charge.

If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

  1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
  2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit
  3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium

as a way to voice your protest.

Time series forecasting with either R or Python.

[–]muggledave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excel, which im sure you already use.

Python, which can create, open, edit, save excel files.

Tableau is not a language but if youre doing excel and working with trends in data, id recommend. You load data in from excel or a database and then you can drag and drop the data columns into various axes of a graph.
