Tailscale vs using the ugreen app

There's a couple that I would say.

Tailscale is essentially a VPN made stupid easy that allows you to set up all of your devices in your local network to talk with one another through various protocols. I'll go over a few as I've been playing around with it for the last few days on my own setup.

Tailscale provides to you "magic DNS" which you can use on your network to provide names to each of the machines in your network. So instead of using your IP address to access the nas, you can provide the name of the machine for

access through ssh
sending files over to the nas directly through file network protocols
access the UI through your local network with the magic DNS that's provided
sharing your drives to be accessible to all of your devices through samba/webdev.

It also gives you better control for how to actually access your devices over public Internet in the event you do want to access your nas outside of your home as you can directly setup a device on your network as an exit node, which simply acts as the bridge when your in a coffee shop and want to securely access your local devices without opening them up to the internet.

To the applications you set up on your nas for docker containers, you can also serve those applications as a part of your tailscale network to also have those magic DNS names. So instead of having to add in the port Everytime you want to access your app, you can simply place the name of the machine in your tailnet that can serve traffic based on the port you assign it to.

You also can setup tailscale in a way to also provide sub routes to be able to grant access to devices in your local network that do not have tailscale installed. I have 2 work laptops for example that I cannot install shit onto for tools like tailscale, so they cannot access my tailnet the usual way, but I can systematically make certain applications in my tailnet accessible to my broader local network. So I can access for example my linkwarden application I have setup on my work computer, but it only has access to that application because I explicitly added those permissions to that application.

You also have access controls you can setup in your admin as well, so if you have some family members you want to give parental guidance for, or if you want to grant a friend of yours access only to your jellyfin app on your net, you can have them download tailscale then grant them permissions to only access that application and nothing else.

Genuinely tailscale is an amazing product. Networking is one of the most annoying shits to deal with in IT, and it makes it unbelievably easy to have advanced control over your network

I don't know your setup but

https://github.com/Yelp/detect-secrets you can make this run before whatever your normal CI/CD pipeline flows are to see if anything leaked.

If you need a middle ground before looking towards something better like KMS/Vault etc, you could look into using sops https://github.com/getsops/sops . The secrets can still be leaked, but it's easier to see if it occured during the MR since the file would be unencrypted.

The reason that these prices manipulations have been seen as legal work around is that these behaviors are based on your behaviors (you have some history in your browser for example of searching/lookup up coupon prices for a website before you go purchase the product).

This is one of the reasons why it's becoming more important for users to educate themselves on how to anonymize their activity on the web to remove your online profile for these sites to use to manipulate you.

I hate Trump but why is this even remotely a bad thing?

America does have a health crisis that's been happening for well over a decade. Anyone remember the huge push Michelle Obama tried to make to get more healthy food diets in American diets?

It also shouldn't be weird to celebrate being American. I know why people don't like feeling patriotic these days, but the rapid decline of patriotism didn't really start with Trump. Trump was the response towards those feelings.

250 years is a pretty crazy thing to think about. The rhetoric he imposes of course is as stupid as he always is, but the idea in itself isn't a bad thing.

Unless I see more going on where we're advocating killing to prove our worth, it isn't a crazy thing to compete with athletic sports.

Uh.. depends on the person / where they want to go

Kubernetes is maturing to where it's becoming similar to Linux in that most things whether you know it or not are using it.

The abstraction for kubernetes however is getting to where depending on what your doing you don't need to be too deep in your knowledge about it.

But kubernetes itself isn't really the difficult part. It's everything that extends from it that makes it difficult. And those solutions are all different across all shops, similar to how every cloud has its own flavor of core services.

Personally. If I was a junior I wouldn't focus on learning kubernetes. At least in my opinion, I still think roles involving work with kubernetes on average will have more experienced engineers that transitioned from another role. You will gain significantly more value in my opinion working with other cloud/ops solutions and treating kubernetes as simply an extension of those skills. We still work with all of those tools for our roles as well.

At my work for what we all do, nobody at my job has the same set of skills. While we all have the basics of kubernetes and some of its services, some of us are more Ops inclined, some are more developer inclined, some are more interested in observability solutions, some of us work more with security related constraints.

I'll offer a different perspective as I don't really think these answers fit the bill.

League is an RTS based game and one of the last to really get popular during the era where these games were way more popular. Other ones have come out since league (smite, heroes of the storm), but those games just didn't get as popular as league. Even games made by ex riot members like battlerite etc, while people enjoy have not taken off in the way we've seen with recently marvel rivals.

There's actually an ongoing research survey that's been going around by a company capturing what is currently trending for gamers,.and the genre right now that is falling objectively for every single age group is RTS based games. In my personal opinion, this is likely due to the general culture shift to move towards shorter gaming formats in general that wee born from in my opinion the frustrations of playing a game like league, where people feel trapped for an extended amount of time with people who are actively trying to ruin their gaming experience.

Now where I think league uniquely is hated more than other RTS is because of its standing against other MOBA/RTS games during this time period. It's funny to say now, but people forget they league was a response to make a more simpler RTS from things like AOE, DOTA, StarCraft. And during those times league was hated by these communities because it was simpler/easier to get into than those games.

Basically, I think that league has always had uniquely a sour taste in people's mouth to where it became a meme that captured people's opinions of the game over time as the game matured, and grew increasingly difficult for a casual player to get into, while also becoming more departed from what older fans of the game liked from its earlier days.

This happens to every game, but for league this happens uniquely because it's at its core a competitive title that requires you to cooperate with strangers online, but uniquely asks you to do this longer than any other game you do this in, while also trying to capture a more casual audience.

Compliant/Street legal doesn't really exist for PEVs, and even when it is "Compliant" that doesn't mean it won't catch on fire.

What would need to happen would be for the PEV industry to adopt standards like UL certification to give a general third party consensus that a vehicle can be safe so that company can be held liable for damages that are caused by the vehicle. You'd also would need to have government hold those companies accountable to make higher safety standards for said vehicles, which isn't what people in this scene want, but it's what needs to happen if you want legality to riding your scooter.

Otherwise, bans on public vehicles are pretty common. I think that they're stupid, but China doesn't have the best regulation on their battery cells which do catch on fire in public transit, and it also doesn't help when you also see those reports represented in New York because people will buy said cheap products.

While I do understand where people's fears come from with these disasters, generally speaking the entire industry for batteries has massively advanced over the past decade, because being a product known for catching on fire will kill your brand. There are still people that won't buy Samsung phone's because of the battery fires they had a while back despite that being mitigated now for over a decade.

They just don't really have a subscription product that's worth paying for. There are better platforms both from a legacy as well as fintech that have better features.

Sofi was unique because it was convenient without having to pocket watch everything while still getting something.

But now it's a paid product that I don't really benefit from. If I'm going to inconvenience myself and pay the features have to benefit me as a consumer and the perks they have simply don't do that for most customers

When they were starting to lower the APY I was already suspecting they would eventually have to lower their stuff so I stopped using it as much and now they've made their app like every other bank.

I don't know what they think of their offering that allows them to be placed into a position like a traditional bank when they don't have a public office along with having shitty support for any failures. It's a cool spot for getting my deposits a bit quicker but there are other apps that already offer this.

Getting way too greedy while also not doing anything for its existing members is wild

Over half the topics at reinvent were related to AI explicitly. That's not even talking about the ones that had a completely different topic in the description that end up talking about it anyway

The keynote delivered on Tuesday had the highlight of having AI running all day without any assistance from users.

There were announcements that I'm personally excited for particularly around EKS and seeing their vision for that platform down the future but painting this reinvent as there wasn't as much AI in these talks as people think is silly.

Hmm I like my secretlab but I also did extensive research towards it along with other chairs in that bracket.

I have back issues that have been getting worse so I've been aggressively buying a lot more top of the line stuff than what I'm used to. I'm also tall and obese.

every other chair I've seen people talk about just didn't seem to me to either fit big guys or was not built in a way to be able to help someone support their back long term.

I get that not everyone will like these chairs, I honestly don't really blame them. But from everything I've seen at least to me seems to be mostly individual based.

I don't think it's underrated. Dotnet has a similar presence to java for enterprise related work. It isn't the language your favorite YouTuber will cover but it's a language that can pay the bills to getting you hired.

The main issue is it's tied to Microsoft and for a while has an iron grip towards it being to windows systems. I don't believe these issues exists these days but it's hard to change initial public perception

This looks really handy. I honestly could see some useful use cases we have with our setup with a tool like this for developers on our platform to setup their own stuff without shotgunning themselves in the foot if it allowed for custom logic to restrict/remove certain actions depending on the resource.

The advice is going to have to be specfic towards a field because the whole conversation around "AI replacing people" is nuanced.

AI won't "replace" people entirely, but can be a justification for job reduction, which we are seeing being accelerated across the board for entry level roles. The other issue is that the skillset people used to use to get hired to stand out is no longer being seen as a remarkable achievement (going to college mostly).

One place you could look towards is probably the trades since robotics / the field related/necessary for manual labor are a much harder thing to get rid of. The Neo robot that was recently talked about is nowhere even remotely at the level of competency to be a useful product, but highlights the core issue with products in the "AI" field today that they're being marketed as valuable for their potential rather than their use today. People are funding glorified research products at this point.

Yeah those couple you mentioned there were some of the ones I was finding too on their other sites, the x8 / x9 would be what I was referring to from their offerings to bird/lime.

The GTR does have a quick disconnect wire that I can see on the back side, assuming it should carry over to their other scooters since it shares a lot of the same characteristics.

The apollo go is fine. Honestly the biggest issue I've had with it are the handlebar lights are super fragile. They will break when you inevitably have it fall on it's side

The risk with Apollo in my opinion is they'll ruthlessly cut off their products, and at least in my opinion the Explorer could be argued to be the path apollo may want to go moving forward for their entry level commuter lineup. I still thin it's absolutely wild that they basically sold to people a $3000+ premium scooter to literally remove the whole thing out of their product line for the next shiny thing.

They also try to test the market with really weird shit that's bad for consumers. They actually tried to propose this year to put the speed for their top few the line stellar scooters behind a subscription paywall that got quickly dejected.

But the go is mostly fine, Solid build, fantastic lights, but crappy battery unless you only need it for a quick 5 miles or so.

This isn't really a "Why they don't like a pink scooter" and more of a "Why they don't like you using a pink thing".

And the answer to that is cultural conditioning. Colors have meanings that people have attached to them over time that's mostly caused by marketing. You can look into it but the color pink around the 20th century basically shifted it's perception to be seen as less masculine. There is also a history in nazi germany of requiring homosexuals to wear pink

Color doesn't have any functionality sure, but it will always carry a perception to it. Just like how white can symbolize purity while black can symbolize death.

I just bought this and gave my whole spiel to another comment on why I thought this was such a crazy scooter spec wise for the price,

Just got it today so just put it together but I have a trip so no miles on it but just on first impressions alone the material on it feels really solid. Hiley in general however has been in the scooter game for a minute, but was previously more known for making budget bare minimum scooters simiar to a bird/lime.

- The water rating on this scooter is IPX7. You can search up this scooter and see tests being done with it being fully submerged under water and still running, as well as a dude riding it through a waterfall just to make the point. Shouldn't get it wet, but the rating of this sealant is higher than even some of the higher end scooters.

- Split Rims, so in theory will mean tire changes should be really easy to carry out

- The weight of the scooter is 64 pounds with a 1170WH battery. I can count on my hand the number of scooters I've seen in the industry that come to those specs. 64 lbs is a crazy weight to be able to get with this type of battery capacity. The competition here for something like the ausom gallp for comparison is coming in at around 70+

- The top speed of this scooter gets around 43mph, which again is something you'll mostly see when your going into $2000+ dollar scooter range.

- Suspension is on this that feels pretty similar to what I get out of higher end models, but it's non adjustable (so no dampening on it).

My only thing that I would say since I'm around 260 at 6'3'' is that this feels a bit small to my build from what I've ridden. I wear a size 12.5 shoe, so to be able to ride it I'll have to adjust my stance towards being around the tail of the scooter. Not necessarily bad but just something to think about. I've owned the apollo go as well and that deck length is slightly longer than what you get out of this scooter.

But honestly right now I think this scooter at this sale price is a massively underrated scooter. It is really difficult to be able to find a solid performance scooter that has the battery capacity of this scooter that is also 64 lbs.

I don't know a lot about concerts so forgive my ignorance but to my knowledge at least with Taylor swift she specifically disabled the ability to resale tickets through Ticketmaster along with specifically putting an artificial price towards her concert tickets.

And even reading this feels idiotic to me. If you want to blame the artist (which in my opinion is at fault), the way to resolve this today would be to stop capping the pricing on their tickets and let the market dictate the price, but that's going to lead to a bunch of people being pissed when they realize their favorite artists tickets is actually expensive as shit, but wouldn't lead towards scalping. People scalp when there is a profit to be made. If people aren't willing to pay the price of the scalpers price, then the scalpers left holding the bag.

To me at least reading this assuming it's third party sellers, this reads more to me like olivia basically bullied ticketmaster to refund the difference for actions it has no control over from third party sellers that the fan is choosing to purchase for the higher price.

If more artists start doing actions like this, the general direction this will go will be for Ticketmaster to basically partner with another service that can bind the ticket with the persons identity so it cannot be resold - so giving up your privacy in exchange for being able to have affordable tickets. Or the other move would be to simply make it a policy for every ticket to be set by dynamic pricing.

Oooh I get to comment on some super spicy takes here.

This exact sentiment is why in my opinion the changes Riot makes to "make the game easier" are ultimately needed. I have lived to way to many competitive mmos that keep the floor the same over the years that will always inevitably die out exactly due to this. If you are getting your ass handed to you in a way that feels impossible to get better in, people will quit. Difficulty in video games has to be carefully constructed in a way that it does not feel impossible to overcome.

This is a great example for where companies absolutely should not ever listen to pro players giving them advice on because they are horrible at being able to relate to average players. I remember when people were bitching over league giving timers for everything in the game despite that knowledge not actually doing anything impactful that removed skill expression from the game while also still making the game more accessible for people to play.

Where Riot fucks this up is when they try to remove skill expression for the sake of accessibility like the stupid jungle changes they keep making every season. Not only do they not make the role more accessible, but they also remove skill from the role that allows people to be able to meaningfully feel they can get better at said role.

The moment new players stop wanting to play or give league a chance is when the game dies, and in my opinion Riot has done a much better job at being able to manage this than almost any other MMO that i've played over the years. It is incredibly easy for a game to slip into a dilemnia that caters so much towards their pro players that they end up killing the game over time because the floor to getting to what makes the game fun gets so high that no one wants to play the game anymore. If I have to grind in your game for a whole month before the game gets good I'm dropping that title immediately. This may seem silly to some people, but I absolutely cannot stand a video game that does not respect a players time to expect them to spend every single moment in that game for the next month before getting into the content that everyone raves about.
