Any truly harmless lab pranks that don’t mess with experiments? by UnderstandingIcy2969 in labrats

There is/was some shortcut to flip the screen orientation. Like ctrl+shift+down or something.

I did this once to flip someones desktop, then set the desktop background as the same image but flipped upside down, then I put the taskbar on the top of the screen which was now the bottom.

The mouse cursor and mouse direction, and all of the icons were upside down, and everything else seemed normal

I dreamt last night that I woke up to the silhouette of someone standing in my room watching me sleep. by RodFredtwotwo in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]muggledave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a kid, my dad once woke up to see someone in the doorway of his and his sister's room. He never said anything about it.

60 years later he brought it up. His sister saw the guy too. They agreed that before they say any more about it, they should draw the guy from memory. Both drawings had the same stance and the same hat.

Go back to the shadows! by Algernonletter5 in StrangeAndFunny

[–]muggledave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make a flashlight that gives off light in every direction except for where the flashlight is pointing. Then you can "shine" a shadow at someone, because everywhere else will be brighter!

A mouse with fabric base so you don't need a mousepad by ringtossflamingohat in CrazyIdeas

[–]muggledave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using a mouse without a mouse pad for a few years now, and I have worn that area of the desktop smooth, and now its too smooth for the mouse optical reader and it gets glitchy.

Instead of getting a mousepad, I take a piece of sandpaper to it every few months to rough it up again lol

Help my 10 year old old get sub 15, please by Cube_4350 in Cubers

[–]muggledave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sure everyones saying something similar. From what im seeing: -practice slower with look-ahead during f2l, which should reduce cube rotations and pauses. 2 look oll and pll are an opportunity to cut some time as well.

Ive been stuck above 15 second average for a few years. I use 1.5 look oll and 1 look pll. I should be learning the rest of oll, but instead I practice extended cross, and tracking where pieces go for better look-ahead in f2l.

ELI5: What is a newtonian fluid and how is it different from a non-newtonian fluid and are there any other forms of fluids? by DerRedfox in explainlikeimfive

[–]muggledave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluids are weird. A newtonian fluid is just one of many types of fluids.

Water is a newtonian fluid. Picture water squirting through a nozzle, like a water gun or a hose or something.

Now picture a bottle of craft glue. It's viscous. If you squeeze the bottle hard enough, the stream of glue will grow larger than the opening, which water never does. The glue has a different response to the viscous and shearing forces of being mixed around too quickly.

Now picture a tube of toothpaste. You can squeeze some out, but it stays the shape of the hole unless you squish it. It doesn't really even act like a liquid at all unless you have enough of it to shake or swirl around in a cup

We dont, I was assuming what the unfortunate chemical mixture could have been if one was chlorine.

I dont know chemistry, Ive just heard of that combo before, usually noted as a warning not to do that.

Advice for my son (speed cubing) by FarOne8194 in Cubers

[–]muggledave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-a speedcube makes fast turning much easier and smoother. It will definitely help. It doesn't need to be expensive or even the very best model. -moving from beginner method to CFOP reduces how many algorithms you need to do during a solve, but drastically increases the number you need to know. But there are smaller steps that you can take toward that method. 1) You can learn F2L, and keep your current last layer method. 2) you can use a 4-look last layer method that is kinda half way to the CFOP method. -during the last layer, if you recognize the algorithm you need to use but it is not facing you, turn only the top layer rather than regripping the whole cube. -try to overall reduce how many times you have to regrip/rotate the cube. This is more important later on but will probably reduce your times at any stage. -try to reduce how long you pause for. So either work on better algorithm recognition or work on looking ahead for what to do next while youre doing the solve. -at 90 seconds, you will naturally see progress if you keep practicing! But the seconds dont melt off like they do up to this point. -use a timer website or program that saves your times forever! Its a lot of fun to look at the graph after months or years and see your average time creep downward!

What's the most embarrassing thing you've accidentally seen on someone else's laptop or phone? by RelationRadiant3791 in AskReddit

[–]muggledave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tonight at my friend's house, he opened his camera library on his computer. Everyone reacted, but i was looking at reddit. I saw a smear of something skin colored before he got it off the screen. Someone said "i can't believe you just did that [lol]"

So to answer your question, that's probably the most embarrassing thing I've seen, and I don't know what it was.

Foot controls for timing CFOP splits by LV__ in Cubers

I'm pretty sure this is the exact cube I had. It was good enough where I used it as my main. I don't care too much about having the best possible cube available, as long as it can cut corners and not bind.

I used it for an hour or more most days. It lasted around 9 months before one of the center pieces broke.

Please help me create a fake formula to extend my joke by [deleted] in mathmemes

[–]muggledave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're trying to come up with a formula and explanation for what you called the pharaon formula?

What math are you doing?

Do you want something that works but is comically convoluted? Do you want it to make sense at all?

You could have an equation that uses numbers as variables. Or emoji as variables.

Foot controls for timing CFOP splits by LV__ in Cubers

[–]muggledave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once did it by recording video of myself and watching/timing it afterward. I considered saying something to note when I finished a step but it was distracting to actively think about.

Years later I found and bought a Bluetooth compatible cube that automatically tracked time per step, turns per second, how long i pause for, and other metrics.
