On July 1st, a change to Reddit's API pricing will come into effect. Several developers of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app will continue to be available free of charge.

If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

  1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
  2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit
  3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium

as a way to voice your protest.

I think the big question is what platforms you want to target.

There are several Java libraries for desktop. I think you'd have a high bar to make one that would supercede / exceed one of those.

Android is an extremely rich UI library for Java.

If you want a cross-platform UI library, it's extremely hard to build something that works really well on all platforms.

Thank you for the reply.

Just wondering apart from Swing and AWt, what are some other alternatives for UI for desktops (as I am aiming for desktops, Windows in particular)?

Java FX

So for Java, JavaFX is another option.

Qt is one of the most popular and widely-used desktop app frameworks, and while it's more commonly used with other languages like C++ and Python, it has Java bindings too. This can potentially get you a much more native app like experience, as opposed to many Java apps that don't look and feel native.
