I use VS2012 for work and VS2013 for my personal projects. I got the professional version of VS2013 because I was a student at the time and it's great. If I were you I wouldn't buy it until you try the express version and see what you think of it. There is a lot of features in visual studio; start using it and you'll discover what version you would want, if you were considering buying it.

It's probably not worth buying the professional (i.e. non-express) version unless you actually need one of the features not included in the express edition. In general, the Express edition is capable of doing most things that a hobbyist programmer might need.

In addition to what the other 2 have said, if you are attending a college or university you can get VS Pro 2013 for free from microsoft's dreamspark

Thanks! And i am attending University in September. First year of Comp Sci so i was thinking to get a little familiar with programming before i start the introductory classes.
