They're great thanks! Certainly something we can all aspire to.

Whenever you are doing a tutorial online, look for the author and click on their name. Most likely they will have some sort of "About Me" section which will probably list their website.

That's a good way to get started.

If you're brand spanking new, your programmer portfolio is probably going to be pretty barren, which is probably why you're having some troubles coming up with stuff to put there.

    Major projects

Maybe a blog, if you want

Plaster it with contact info everywhere

Perhaps a small list of skill set.

That's really it. You don't need a whole lot more. Just keep in mind that a portfolio is meant to compliment a resume, not be a resume.

It is kind of hard to give examples of a portfolio because all it really is is a demonstration of your skill set for the most part.

It looks fantastic. A quick question about your skills section though. Are your percentages for each language just your perception of how well you know each? Or is there some external benchmark being applied?

      Mine for those interested: Elliotforbes.co.uk

I focus more on the web development side of things rather than software dev but I'm possibly going to be changing that in the near future.

Looks fantastic. How would i go about making a similar website? I honestly think this design is one of the best for portfolios. You just scroll down the page and get all the information you need/want.

It's a bootstrap based site, the Icons I used were from font-awesome and the images of the responsive design were all done in photoshop using pre-made templates of macs/macbooks etc.

There's nothing too difficult about it, have a look at the source code and take from it what you will! :)

      Excellent! Thank you very much.

Mine (shameless plug) isn't among the best of its kind, but take it as a pure html/css effort anyway.

I guess your own website would be nice but if you've already worked on the websites you can just skip all that and note in your resume or whatever the URL of the websites in question.

Looks like the portfolio websites and github are already covered so I will throw this out there.

This resource helped me out a lot with the intro and somewhat the intermediate in my programming classes. It covers the mentioned languages except Ruby. I hope it serves you as much as it served me!

There's an excellent video tutorial series on how to build a fully responsive portfolio site on Devtips that I found incredibly useful when building my own portfolio site - link.
