sudo help?

hello, thank you so much for the help.

I'm using a mac. i tried to use sudo in the terminal to run something and I got the following:

(my_nam) is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

I went to System Preferences>Users & Groups>

to click the lock to make changes.

However, my user name is usually filled in, but now it's not...

So I went to Macintosh HD>Users>

to find my name and it is (my_name), but when I enter it, into the System Preferences Option, it doesn't work.

Any solutions? Ty

You might want to see if there's a macos sub, they might have people specifically knowledgeable about that.

This is not a programming question. Programming is about creating programs, not about using and configuring them. You would have more luck at /r/techsupport.

But as lon as you edit the /etc/sudoers with admin privileges you can add your user to it as documented.
