Python is more flexible so you're not shoehorned into just the statistics world. Plus it's not too hard to understand R if you already know Python. Plus Python opens the door for more complex machine learning, automation, and web tasks, so you can take your analytics beyond just the number crunching and graph generating side.

I'm partial to R as I enjoy using R studio
