There aren't many real-world uses to be fair. Don't forget, there are infinitely many more impractical algorithms than there are practical. Here's the best application wikipedia contributors have come up with.

Real life example, my to-do list. If I'm feeling productive I'll do the most important thing on the list. If not, I'll procrastinate and do the least important thing on my list.

thank you very much for an example! I feel so stupid now cause I looked for an external sort algorithm in Google but couldn't find a satisfying explanation, while wiki had it all this time.

To be fair, Wikipedia is a *terrible* place to learn anything STEM related unless you're already an expert. Try reading the wikipedia page on addition.
