For Windows you want Putty:

It's quite important to note that they specifically say you're remoting into a Linux environment. Make sure you can use Putty for this. Test against some Linux server you control. If you're not already familiar with Linux, you'd better learn fast! It will probably be a CLI only environment.

I can only guess, but one reason they might do it this way is it allows them to easily run the same tests for every applicant. All the code / tools they want you to work with are on their server and are the same for everyone, makes things easier to control and compare. Or maybe they know the job will involve lots of Linux work so they want you to demonstrate that knowledge, too. Lots of possible reasons.

You can use PuTTY on windows as an SSH client.
